Driving, sharing and nurturing innovation
Established in 2014, SAIC accelerates the growth and resilience of Scotland’s aquaculture sector. We champion innovation across finfish, shellfish and seaweed, bringing together expertise from business, research and the wider supply chain to drive meaningful, long‑term progress.
Our mission is to enable sustainable growth by supporting R&D that delivers practical, commercially relevant outcomes. We focus on reducing environmental impact, strengthening climate resilience and enhancing the sector’s economic contribution to Scotland. Through our coordinated funding and collaborative approach, we help address key challenges, improve production efficiency and unlock new development opportunities.
SAIC‑supported projects have safeguarded jobs and revenue, opened new markets and created pathways for spin‑out companies and emerging technologies.
We are an independent, science‑led voice for the sector, fostering knowledge exchange and providing insight that helps shape future decision‑making. Our values of support, agility, integrity and collaboration guide everything we do.
In April 2026, SAIC became a fully independent organisation, marking a new chapter and concluding our connection with the University of Stirling.
Today, our work spans the full breadth of Scottish aquaculture, ensuring the sector remains innovative, competitive and sustainable for generations to come.
