Byron Morales Lange

Dr Byron Morales-Lange is a biologist specialising in the health and welfare of aquatic organisms under multi-stressor conditions. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology, a Master’s degree in Microbiological Sciences, and a PhD in Biotechnology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile. He is currently a Scientific Researcher in the Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences within the Faculty of Biosciences at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Ås, Norway.

With research experience spanning both Chile and Norway for more than fifteen years, Byron’s work bridges in vitro models, wet-lab in vivo trials, and commercial-scale evaluations. His expertise combines immunonutrition with molecular and cellular biology, focusing on how fish respond to environmental challenges, algal blooms, and viral and bacterial pathogens. Currently, his research integrates multi-layer experimental designs including clinical assessments, transcriptional and protein biomarkers, and pan-omics strategies (RNA-seq, shotgun proteomics, and metabolomics) to establish comprehensive physiological profiles of fish resilience. He believes this approach can contribute to more sustainable aquaculture following the One Health concept.
