Dr Carmel McDougall is a Reader in Marine Biology at the University of St Andrews.
Her research combines molecular biology, genomics, ecology, and applied research, with a particular focus on molluscan aquaculture and sustainable shellfish production. Over the past 20 years she has worked extensively across a range of molluscan aquaculture systems, including pearl oysters, tropical rock oysters, native oysters, abalone, and other commercially important shellfish species. Her research has focused on translating scientific discoveries into practical outcomes for industry, including improved aquaculture production, diagnostics, biodiversity assessment, and restoration outcomes.
