Keith Davidson

Professor Keith Davidson is a marine biogeochemist and Associate Director of Science and Education at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) where he has been based since 1998.

He has built expertise at the interface between marine science, education, and the aquaculture industry, working to ensure that scientific evidence informs both operational practice and policy. His interests span the biological and environmental processes that underpin productive and resilient aquaculture systems, with a particular emphasis on translating complex scientific knowledge into practical outcomes for industry, regulators, and the wider public.

Current research related research focusses on harmful plankton (phytoplankton and micro-jellyfish) and their impact on aquaculture, including the use of mathematical models, novel instrumentation and AI based techniques.
