Martin Llewellyn

Professor Martin Llewellyn is Director of Innovation, Engagement and Enterprise at the School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine, University of Glasgow.

His research focuses on aquaculture health, particularly gill health in farmed salmon, including work on Neoparamoeba perurans, the parasite responsible for amoebic gill disease, and its symbiotic relationship with the kinetoplastid Perkinsela. He has helped develop SalmoSim, an in vitro platform that models fish digestive physiology, used to test interventions and feed strategies without live animal trials.

Martin also has burgeoning interests in shellfish and seaweed aquaculture, and is a strong advocate for diversification in UK aquaculture, championing new species to build a more resilient, sustainable sector.
