Sophie Fridman

Sophie is a Senior Aquaculture Consultant at Macalister Elliott & Partners, a leading consultancy company supporting the development of the sustainable fisheries and aquaculture sector, and has over 30 years of experience in aquaculture across research, international consultancy and industry engagement.

Sophie holds an M.A. from the University of St Andrews, Scotland and an M.Sc. and  Ph.D. from the University of Stirling, Scotland. She has worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Stirling’s Institute of Aquaculture, where her research projects focused on addressing aquatic animal health and welfare challenges in collaboration with industry partners, leading to the development of practical solutions to improve fish health and production performance.

She has extensive international consultancy experience, including advisory work for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on aquatic animal health and biosecurity, and has contributed to global initiatives addressing antimicrobial resistance and climate change in aquaculture.

As a member of the SAIC Science Panel, Sophie brings expertise in fish health, aquatic animal welfare, biosecurity and the practical application of research to support a sustainable and resilient aquaculture sector.
