Tim Bean

Dr Tim Bean is a Research Fellow and Group Leader at the Roslin Institute (University of Edinburgh).
His research career spans over fifteen years across academia and government science, including roles at Cefas and The Roslin Institute. He focuses on aquaculture disease, genetics, and selective breeding, with a particular emphasis on oyster aquaculture and restoration. His group also works with crustaceans and finfish when the opportunities arise.
Since joining Roslin in 2019, he has established and led a research programme investigating the genetic basis of disease resistance, the development of non-invasive diagnostics, and the application of genomic technologies to improve resilience and sustainability in aquaculture species.
