New funding call: The Internet of Food Things

The Internet of Food Things project is funded by a £1.14 million grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to nurture and grow the UK’s food manufacturing digital economy.

Interface would like to draw attention to a recent funding call from the Internet of Food Things, which may be of interest to SAIC’s network.

The Internet of Food Things Network Plus was set up by EPSRC to stimulate and coordinate inter-disciplinary research into the digital transformation of the food production and supply chain through the application of new technologies such as IoT, AI, smart packaging, blockchain, new business models, and other forms of innovation.

Individual projects can request up to £40,000 total funding (total spend up to £50,000 as per FEC 80% funding). You can read the guidance notes here.

Interface has been working closely with SAOS, an organisation that supports and manages over 70 farmer cooperatives and food industry collaborations, as well as projects such as the Market Driven Supply Chains. They have also been supporting work with Scotland Food and Drink, trade associations and research institutes. A lot of activity and concepts are currently circulating around the food and drink sector, and Interface is keen to bring in expertise from academia to drive these forward.
