SAIC Introduces: BiOceanOr

In the latest 'SAIC Introduces' instalment, we're learning more about BiOceanOr - a French company combining biology and AI to deliver environmental intelligence for aquaculture.

BiOceanOr was founded in 2018 in Nice, France, and has support from Ifremer, the French national institute for ocean science. That scientific grounding is central to the
company's approach, transforming complex environmental data into reliable insights and actionable forecasts for fish farmers worldwide.

Behind every forecast and insight stands a team of more than 20 experts spanning fish health, marine biology, oceanography, data science and artificial intelligence, alongside professionals with hands-on farm management experience. This diversity gives BiOceanOr a rounded understanding of the biological, environmental and operational challenges farmers face day to day.

Drawing on extensive experience in major salmon farming regions such as Norway and Chile, BiOceanOr covers the full data value chain, from ensuring data consistency to producing forecasts, assessing risks and delivering advanced analytics. In Chile, for example, Invermar uses BiOceanOr's AquaREAL platform to access dissolved oxygen forecasts, supporting earlier and better-informed decisions on site.

Moreover, good decisions depend on reliable data, yet environmental data is often inconsistent. In one customer case, 10 of 18 sites lacked data reliable enough for
prediction models. This is why BiOceanOr invested several years of R&D in AquaCHECK, a tool that automatically checks and cleans environmental datasets, helping farmers detect sensor issues early and keep their equipment reliable.

This end-to-end approach allows BiOceanOr's solutions to anticipate dissolved oxygen variations, harmful algal bloom (HAB) risks and other environmental stressors before they affect fish health, welfare and production performance.

Through participation in the consortium, we hope to improve our visibility within the Scottish aquaculture industry and look forward to exploring how our environmental
intelligence solutions can support responsible, high-performing and sustainable aquaculture in Scotland.
