Climate change poses complex challenges for salmon aquaculture, from increased frequency of marine heatwaves to shifts in pathogen dynamics and ecosystem interactions. A robust understanding of these impacts is essential to develop adaptive strategies that safeguard fish welfare, maintain production efficiency, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This event brings together experts from research, industry, and policy. Through a series of presentations, panel discussions, and an interactive session, we will examine the challenges ahead and identify opportunities for innovation and collaboration.

The workshop is hosted in collaboration with Lynne Falconer of the University of Stirling whose UKRI-funded research project, ‘Addressing the ability of marine aquaculture to respond to climate change using systems thinking and precision-based frameworks’, explores several interconnected themes that will be central to our discussion.

This event is designed to support open dialogue, and no trade press will be present.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Scene-setting presentations on climate change
  • Series of talks and Q&A panels from academic and industry perspectives
    • Speakers include representatives from University of Stirling, Wellfish Tech, Scottish Sea Farms, BioMar, Aquaculture Stewardship Council, Institute of Marine Research (Norway), Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) and Nofima (Norway)
