Skills & Training

Find out how SAIC helps grow the industry's talent pool by supporting the next generation of aquaculture professionals. We fund PhD and MSc places, run innovation and leadership training programmes, provide conference travel grants for students, organise internships, and much more.

We help match candidates to aquaculture businesses or academic courses through a range of different paths. Our summer internship programme, run in partnership with Skills Development Scotland and DYW, aims to encourage new generations into the sector by giving undergraduates an insight into the range of career opportunities available.

SAIC’s MSc initiative, meanwhile, offers funded places and more to those interested in studying for an MSc in an aquaculture-related subject.

The Leadership Development Programme offers a management and leadership framework for rising stars within the industry.

Our Innovation Programme brings together people from industry and academia on a three-month training programme providing them with the knowledge and skills to solve challenges of 21st century aquaculture.

We also fund PhD Scholarships to advance research within the sector. Research areas are diverse, from examining shellfish farming and combatting sea lice, to modelling, salmon immunology, and disease monitoring.

If you are an aquaculture business and would like to offer a placement or project idea, please get in touch. If you would like to take part in any of these programmes and become a SAIC Scholar, please contact us.
