New aquaculture strategy for England

The Seafood 2040 (SF2040) programme, the SF2040 Seafood Industry Leadership Group and the SF2040 Aquaculture Leadership Group (ALG) have announced the release of the English Aquaculture Strategy.

This comprehensive strategy developed by Poseidon Aquatic Resource Management Ltd and supported by the SF2040 ALG, Seafish, and Defra, sets out a vision and plan for a ten-fold increase in production, to approximately 90,000 tonnes, by 2040. The Strategy supports the sector in its efforts to increase its contribution to England’s food security, seafood consumption, and job growth. It also includes a delivery plan with specific actions for all the key players within the sector such as industry, government, and regulators.

Finally, the Strategy recognises a need for clear leadership and effective collaboration between industry, government and regulators to meet the challenges facing the sector, including the uncertainties caused by COVID-19 and the UK’s Exit from the EU.
